A dynamic QR code is a QR code whose destination can be changed after it is printed. It does not encode the final page directly, but a stable address (for example yoursite.com/qr/menu) that redirects to the destination you choose. On Webflow, that address can be a page of your own CMS: this is what QR Manager does.
What is a dynamic QR code?
A QR code holds a text, most often a URL. When that URL is the final page, the code is called static: to change the destination, you have to generate and reprint a new code.
A dynamic QR code holds an intermediate URL that never changes. That URL redirects to the current destination, which you can change at will. The printed code never changes.
Static vs dynamic QR codes: the differences
Both scan the same way. The difference shows after printing:
- Destination: fixed for a static code, editable for a dynamic code.
- Pausing: impossible for a static code, possible for a dynamic one.
- Statistics: none for a static code, scans counted for a dynamic one.
- Languages: one destination for a static code, one per language possible for a dynamic one.
Why host it on your Webflow site?
Most dynamic QR code generators use their own redirect domain. If the service shuts down or the subscription ends, printed codes stop working.
With QR Manager, the encoded address belongs to your domain (yoursite.com/qr/…) and the redirect is done by a page of your Webflow CMS. Printed codes stay under your control: if you stop using the app, they still point to your site.
Create a dynamic QR code on Webflow, step by step
You need a Webflow site with a CMS plan. Count two minutes for the setup, then a few seconds per code.
- Install QR ManagerFrom the Webflow Marketplace or the QR Manager website, authorize the app on your site.
- Follow the assistantIn the Designer, the assistant creates the “QR Codes” CMS collection, picks the domain and builds the redirect page.
- Publish the siteThe redirect page must be published for the codes to work.
- Create the QR codeEnter a name and a destination, pick a style (colors, logo) and create the code: it is published right away.
- Download and printDownload the code as a 2048 px PNG or an SVG, then print it. You can change its destination at any time.
Printing best practices
- Size: at least 2 cm wide for reading at 20 cm, larger for a poster read from afar (about 1/10 of the reading distance).
- Contrast: dark modules on a light background. Avoid inverted colors and low contrast.
- Margin: keep an empty area around the code (included in QR Manager's files).
- Logo: it reduces the readable area; QR Manager then raises the error correction to the highest level (H).
- Test the printed code with several phones before a large print run.
Measuring scans
QR Manager counts the scans of each code anonymously (no cookie, no IP address kept). With Premium, you see unique scans, days and hours, cities, devices and campaigns. To follow visitors up to conversions, add UTM parameters: scans then show up as campaigns in Google Analytics.
Frequently asked questions
Is a dynamic QR code paid?
With QR Manager, the free plan creates 3 new dynamic QR codes per 24 hours. Premium (10 € per month or 79 € per year) is unlimited, and Premium Team (39 € per month) adds members.
Does a dynamic QR code expire?
With QR Manager, no: it works as long as your Webflow site and its CMS collection exist.
Can a static QR code be turned into a dynamic one?
No: a static code encodes its destination forever. Create a new dynamic code and reprint it one last time.
Is a dynamic QR code slower?
The redirect adds a barely noticeable moment: your site's page opens and redirects at once.
